History

Kidde Products was formed on 1 January 2002 by the amalgamation of several top UK fire equipment manufacturing companies owned by Kidde plc. On 1 April 2005 Kidde plc was acquired by US-based United Technologies Corporation. On 30 September 2005 the company was re-named Kidde Products Limited. Today it is part of UTC Fire & Security, a $4.5 billion company with over 52,000 employees serving customers in over 30 countries.

Brands

The company's portfolio of leading brands comprises Angus Fire, Kidde Fire Protection, Airsense Technology, Ginge-Kerr, Kidde Suppression and Kerr Fire Fighting Chemicals. It has customers in over one hundred countries in Europe, Africa, the Arabian Gulf, South America and the Caribbean.

Products

The company is the world's largest manufacturer of fire fighting foam concentrates and covered fire hose. It also markets the world's most extensive range of specialist portable pumps for fire fighting and flood relief operations. It manufactures the world's widest range of clean agent fire suppression systems engineered for use with 3M Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, FM-200, Argonite and Carbon Dioxde. A comprehensive range of specialist fire detection products includes aspirating smoke detection and linear heat detection systems as well as fire control panels. The company leads the field in industrial explosion suppression technology, and is also a major supplier of sprinklers, hose reels, rising mains and extinguishers for building protection.

Structure

The company has over 500 employees at five locations in the UK. Thame in Oxfordshire is the company headquarters and centre for product sales and customer support. The other four sites are primarily manufacturing facilities. Bentham in North Yorkshire is the centre for fire hose, foam concentrate, fire fighting equipment and clean agent fire suppression system production. Kirkby near Liverpool manufactures dry chemical powder extinguishing agents; Seaham in County Durham and Stevenage in Hertfordshire are among the world's leading centres for the production of specialist electronic fire detection and alarm systems.
